On May 16th, volunteers met with Rise and Shine to organize the details for a children’s mountain biking summer camp.  Here is  a copy of the minutes sent out after the meeting.  All help is most appreciated!

What a great kick-off meeting last night!  Thanks to everyone who has stepped up to help organize this amazing camp for Rise and Shine!  We are super excited!

Here is a summary of what we discussed last night and some overall details.

WHO:  Pisgah Area SORBA has partnered with Rise and Shine Summer Program in Brevard.  The ages and numbers of students are: 50 students: 20 (k-2nd grade), 15 (3rd-5th graders), 15 (6th-12th graders)

WHAT:  We are creating a summer bicycle and outdoor adventure camp for 50 children in the Rise and Shine program.

WHEN & WHERE:  There will be a 2 day bicycle camp on-site at Rise and Shine on July 10th and 11th from 1:00 – 4:30 pm.  There will be 2 days of riding and other activities in DuPont State Forest on July 16th and 30th from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.  PAS will organize the ride part of the visit to DuPont State Forest.

WHY:  Last year, CAND AID, an Oskar Blues affiliated non-profit, donated bikes to Rise and Shine Children.  You can see a story in the Transylvania Times here:  http://www.transylvaniatimes.com/story/2016/07/18/features/bike-giveaway/28505.html.  We want to take their donation to the next level by introducing the children to the sport of mountain biking.  Maybe some of them will end up with a mountain biking scholarship to college!
