“If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?”―Percy Bysshe Shelley, ‘Ode to the West Wind’

This snowstorm that hit Dec 8th, 2018 was interesting and highlighted one of the things that makes Pisgah National Forest known as #thepisgah.

Micro-climates.

Some areas were hit hard, remote valleys, mostly at low elevations (but not all), ice forming, and trees with a fiber structure not used to a wet, heavy snow load.

Snap.

Other areas were not hit very hard., and surprisingly, were free of downed trees and crushed Rhodos.
