Trail Adopter Highlight: Will Avent

Avery Creek - Adopted by Will Avent

Since Will Avent became the Trail Adopter of Avery Creek  Trail in September 2022, he has led over 650 hours of trail work with seasoned volunteers and newer volunteers who wanted to get their feet wet on complicated builds. The feedback from the trail community has been astounding and we are blown away by his dedication to the trail and his role as the trail adopter.

The main corridor of work that Will's teams have been working on is some of the more remote sections that we access. By vehicle, we shuttle 6-7 miles on forest service roads or hike about 1.5 miles in on the Club Gap trail to the upper section of Avery Creek trail from Avery Creek road.

The goal of the work has been to clear and reestablish drains and add additional rock armoring to channel water off the trail. Along the way, the teams have used all sorts of equipment to accomplish moving heavy boulders and rocks. The use of rock baskets, rock bars, grip hoists, "THE BOBCAT", Cannycom, and all sorts of hand tools, to accomplish the difficult but needed backcountry work.

We thank Will and everyone that has given time to the Avery Creek volunteer projects! Well Done
