We had a phenomenal bike and trail-filled weekend. There was so much biking, trail maintenance, riding, and community happening that it’s hard to put it all in perspective. The bike community in Asheville and WNC is alive and well! On Saturday, Pisgah Area SORBA hosted two separate work groups in Bent Creek. In coordination with the local NICA Team - Pisgah Rage we hosted over 20 volunteers (athletes, and parents) with trained TCLs to address our highly used lake trails (Homestead, Pine Tree, and Small Creek) and for our quarterly dig day we hosted another 15+ volunteers with PAS Board Members and seasoned TCLs on Deer Lake Lodge, Powerline, and Wolf Branch. This time of year is always imperative to get on high-traffic trails to assess needs from the main parking areas. Our crews cleaned up additional branches/blow down from the recent storms, cleared the trail corridors (pokey branches, brambles, and loose debris), and addressed 30+ drains along 6 trails. In true PAS coordination style, our Events Committee team partnered with one of our long-time bike shop sponsors, Motion Makers, to host a social hangout after the dig day in Bent Creek. Committee Chair, Heather Wright and partner Jeremy threw down and cooked some amazing food (pulled pork, tempeh, baked beans, slaw, mac n cheese, and homemade sauces). Motion Makers was kind enough to pay for the food and provide us with a welcoming space to hang out. Of course, there were beverages from our sponsors Sierra Nevada and Athletic Brewing and young athlete-appropriate options too. Members of Pisgah Rage were gifted with schwag from NC Parks and Recreation as well a donation from Pisgah Area SORBA. There were a good group of Motion Makers customers as well as our skilled Trail volunteers. Good times and good people, thank you Motion MakersLater Saturday evening the love of our community kept flowing. Many of our Board of Directors, members, and Trail Crew attended the annual Asheville On Bikes Fundraiser - Bike Love at Highland Brewing. Bike Love is an outpouring of our entire bike community, regardless of what type of bike or path/trail they ride. It is a coming together of enthusiasts, professionals, and advocates who support the many options of recreation we have on human-powered wheels, and bring that focus to a community celebration. A big THANK YOU goes out to Mike Sule and all involved with Asheville On Bikes and the supporting bike community in WNC. For more information on how to get involved with PAS Trail Days, go to our website and GET INVOLVED…
