Trail Program - Strategic Plan
We are excited to announce the current development of our Trail Program Strategic Plan, which outlines our 5 year approach to managing and enhancing our trail systems. This plan is organized into three categories of trail needs: routine maintenance, maintenance projects, and special projects.
Routine maintenance: These tasks are often performed annually, such as clearing drains or removing fallen trees. Routine maintenance is needed on all trails and funding for this work comes from our annual operating budget.
Maintenance projects: These involve more extensive efforts, requiring collaboration between our paid trail staff and volunteer crews. Funding for these projects is also allocated from our operating budget. An example includes our ongoing improvements on Avery Creek.
Special Projects: These larger-scale initiatives go beyond our operating budget. They often involve additional funding sources, NEPA requirements, and/or the use of external resources like hired contractors and rental equipment. Notable accomplishments under this category include the recent Greenslick and Butter projects.
Below, you’ll find a list of currently identified maintenance projects. As we continue assessing trail conditions, particularly in the wake of the recent hurricane, this list will expand. Special Projects will be shared publicly as they are finalized for viability! We are committed to improving and expanding our mountain biking experiences and look forward to using this strategic plan as our guide.
