Trees, Debris, and Trails
We grew up being taught that March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb. So far, this is abruptly true. Over the first weeks of the month, we have been hit with wicked winds, and record-high temperatures in the 70s only to have a deep drop into the 20s overnight. Last week we had our amazing community reporting on downed trees from Bracken/Brevard to Bent Creek/Asheville. Our trail crews and Sawyers (tree bucking/cutting teams) were fast to react. From Monday, March 6th to Saturday, March, 11th Pisgah Area SORBA had multiple crews removing downed trees, and debris as well as pre-planned trail work. A rough estimate/count clearing trees in Brevard, Bracken, Mills River, Richmond Hill (Asheville), and Bent Creek our crews have cleared 30+ trees and early season brushing. A crew of folks surveyed the remaining portion of Slate-Pilot and there are still another 20 trees to be cleared on that trail alone.Additionally, on Saturday, March 11th PAS had multiple volunteers in Bent Creek for our quarterly Public Dig Day, clearing debris, drains, limbs, and more. There are many other volunteer trail crews that help in the region, we are just covering what Pisgah Area SORBA crews have handled. This has been a great community partnership, keep the momentum and support coming. Let us know if you see anything else that we haven’t documented. Please continue to post on the social media forums as well as report them directly to us at https://pisgahareasorba.org/trails/report-an-issue/Thank you for your continued support.
