Volunteering In Pisgah National Forest

Over the past weekend, PAS led several different volunteer work sessions within the Pisgah Ranger District.
The following photos are from work that occurred in North Mills River and Bent Creek. On Saturday, Mike Ferraro + the usual suspects took advantage of the nice weather and continued work on Spencer Gap, building a "text-book" shaped/compacted grade reversal. This handwork helps to keep the precipitation off the trail tread (a never-ending battle in Pisgah). This work is near the bottom of Spencer where the old road bed turns into singletrack.
On Sunday, PAS led a group of National Honor Society Students from Asheville High to clean drains on both Ingles Field Gap and IFG Connector. This group cleaned about 90% of the drains on the entire trail (60+ drains & nicks) and the trail should be ready for continued spring rains. Thank you to the students for coming out, working hard, and asking great questions about our trail stewardship here in Pisgah. It's always fun to connect with the next generation of trail users.
Lastly, Trail Crew Leaders, Glenn Middleton & Sam Leuthold have poured several hours of time walking and cleaning drains on Green's Lick, Little Hickory Top and Upper Sidehill in Bent Creek.
Thank you to all of our members, crew leaders, volunteers, and sponsors who keep things movin' and groovin' 'here at PAS. It def takes a community, and we are proud to be part of the trail community here in WNC. Now, get off that soul-sucking phone and go use a trail.
